Divine Appointments: Seeing God’s Hand in Every Encounter

by Ron Kelleher  - June 9, 2025

Scripture of the Week:

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
— Proverbs 16:9 (NIV)

Devotional:

Your calendar is packed.
Meetings, deadlines, client calls, hallway conversations.
Most of it feels routine, even forgettable.
But what if those moments weren’t random?

What if every encounter—every meeting, every interruption—was part of something far bigger than you realized?

Scripture reminds us that “the Lord establishes [our] steps.” That means your workday is never just a series of coincidences—it’s a mission field, filled with divine appointments.

Divine appointments are moments God arranges where your presence, words, or actions intersect with someone else’s need, question, or pain. These are not always dramatic or obvious. In fact, most come disguised as everyday interactions.

How to Recognize Divine Appointments

Start Your Day with Surrender
Ask God to lead your steps. Invite Him to use your schedule, even your interruptions, for His purposes. When you’re available to Him, He’ll make your path fruitful.

Be Present in the Moment
Being fully present in the moment is the key to not missing these divine appointments. Sometimes, the most powerful encounters happen when you look someone in the eye and really listen.

Respond with Courage and Grace
You may feel unqualified, but God equips those He appoints. A word of encouragement, a prayer offered, or a testimony shared might be the very thing someone needs—and you’re the one God sent.

Trust God with the Results
Remember, your job isn’t to change people. It’s to be faithful. Trust God with the outcomes. You plant the seeds—He brings the harvest. This trust can bring you peace and reassurance in your journey.

A Story to Carry with You:

A man once told me about a coworker who always seemed discouraged. He sensed God prompting him to stop and ask, “Are you doing okay?” That single question led to a deep conversation about family struggles and faith.

That wasn’t on his calendar. It wasn’t in a strategic plan.
It was a divine appointment, a moment of divine intervention that had the power to transform a life.

And it became the beginning of that coworker’s journey back to God—because someone noticed and responded.

This Week’s Challenge:

Each morning this week, pray:

“Lord, give me eyes to see the divine appointments You’ve set before me.
Make me attentive, available, and obedient.”

Then walk into your day ready to be used—not just by your company, but by your Creator.

Reflection Verse for the Week:

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity…”
Ephesians 5:15–16a (NIV)
